Question:
Can you have a healthy pregnancy after RNY?
I was just curious as to whether or not it is advisable and possible to have a baby after RNY surgery. Are there any health risks to mother or baby? — Andromeda B. (posted on July 19, 2000)

Hi there I met with my surgeon on 7-13-00 and one of my question was this
exactly. An yes you can have a very healthy baby and there are no risk to
you or the baby. This was important to me as well since I would like
another child as well. I hope this helps you.

I had on RNY in '96, and got pregnant in '97. I had a normal healthy
pregnancy, except for passing out a few times. :) That sounds scarey, but
I've had friends do the same thing even though they had never had WLS. I
had a full term pregnancy, and never had labor pains at all! Labor was
induced, but I never dilated, so I had a C-section. (I had prayed for that
for 9 long months!) My baby weighed 7 lbs, and everything has been fine
since. I am currently undergoing pre-op testing for a revision to the DS
WLS, because I have gained 50lbs back, and I am severely anemic. If you
have any other questions, please feel free to e-mail me. I'll be glad to
help as much as I can.

One of my doctor's patients just had twins!! I was concerned about this
too, but I was assured that it actually increases your ability to have a
healthy pregnancy. :) Good luck!
