Question:
How do you deal with pain-in-the-rear after losing your weight?
I am 9 months psotop and have lost 117 pounds -- I'm at my personal goal weight of 143. (I'm 5'8") My problem is I now have NO butt and it kills me to sit for long periods of time. I was in a meeting all day today and I felt like someone had been hammering on my tailbone and the bones in each "cheek". It's driving me nuts! Anyone dealt with this one? Thanks in advance! — [Deactivated Member] (posted on June 5, 2000)

Ann: Gawd, I thought I was the only one... This has been quite an
experience.. I had an old ski injury many years ago on my tail bone and
I thought that was it was just acting up again, but this has went on for
quite some time.. The prolonged sitting is very painful, however, the
rising is even worse (gasp) I have lost a lot of umm fat on my back
side.. So I never thought that was it.. Although I have been finding all
kinds of bones for some time now... I'll settle for a comfy cushion
or pillow instead of the fat any time...LOL

Hi Ann,
Actually the pain does get better. It seemed to have been at it's worse
around the 5-7 month marker. I am now almost 11 post op and it's not
nearly as bad as it was before. As for that SI joint, just wanted to let
you all know that it's called the sacroiliac joint. It the junction
between your ilium (hips) and sacrum (bottom of your back). Just hang in
there and it should get a little better with time. I do still have some
problems with sitting in HARD chairs but for the most part, it isn't as bad
as before. Good Luck.. =)

I am having the same problem with the bones in my (butt) cheeks. I cannot
believe how much it hurts if I am sitting on something that does not have a
lot of padding. I am 9 and a half months post op--and have lost 106
pounds. The only way I am able to deal with it is to take a small pillow
with me when we go to ball games, or any where else a pillow will be ok.
Unfortunately, you cannot take a pillow with you everywhere. Sorry I
cannot be much help, but I just wanted to let you know that "You are
not alone".

I've yet to see one of us who doesn't have this problem! Buns go
completely flat, puddle of skin at the bottom? I just spent the first 3
years kind of sitting to one sixe, one bun at a time. Made me lok thinner,
anyway. Every chair in our house has padding. But your butt DOES come
back, about the 3rd year. Honest. And it's kinda scary when it does! You
get usta slipping into pants without effort. So, quite a surprise now to
have a regulation normal butt again! I know it's uncomfy now, but it will
change, just so slowly you hard notice. Count the wrinkles today, mark the
calendar and count 'em in 3 months, then 3 months, etc.
