Question:
How much water should I be able to drink?
Hello Everyone. Just got home from a lap VBG on 2/18. Doing OK. But everyone said I should drink 1-2 oz. at a time. I have no problem or discomfort sipping 4 oz. and feel so thirsty that I could drink 8! If I can drink 1/2 a cup of water with no feeling of fullness, does this mean my pouch is too big, or just that water goes through the ring really quickly so that that amount is no problem. I'm a newbie! I'm confused! — Suzanne S. (posted on February 23, 2000)

My surgion states no more than 4 oz a one time and this was at 4 weeks
post-op. I have found that I do better if I just sip constantly. I still
have a hard time getting in 48oz of fluid a day, which is what is really
important. Drink, Drink, Drink!

The water goes right through. You should be working your way to at least
64 oz of water(or fluids) a day. Some people do as many as 100. It is
definitely not going to hurt you at all. All people differ as far as what
and how much they can tolerate...If you are really concerned, contact your
surgeon's office.

My surgeon told me that water and soups will go right through the ring. He
told me not to drink a lot of soups as this could hinder weight loss.

Suzanne,
Yes the water goes right through the ring, however you want to only drink
4oz at a time in the beggining. The reason for this is because you can
still strech the stomache pouch will it is healing. It is very
uncomfortable when this happens. It may also stretch the stomache out
permenatly. You then would be able to eat more food and not lose as much
weight.
