Question:
I am 8 months post-op and have been losing my hair rapidly.
Help! My Surgeon suggested I take Biotin, my Nutritionist says I probbly need protein suppliments and my PCP says my hair will probably continue to fall out until my body weight stablizes. What should I do? — [Anonymous] (posted on February 22, 2000)

I am about 6 months post and would also like to know what you
find out. I have lost more than 1/2 of my hair and it is still falling
out. I am taking biotin daily. Please let me know what you
find out. [email protected]

Hi! I had significant hair loss at about 6 months out. My med team had me
increase protein and add 50 mg of zinc and 25,000 IUs of beta-carotene to
my daily vitamin suppliments. Within 2 weeks the hair loss had stopped and
better yet, my hair began to grow back in. Of course, this is just my
experience, your mileage may vary. :-) Good luck!!

I gave up the supplements after a few weeks and eventually
the hair loss stopped on its own. I lost hair from about 6 months to
about 13 months post-op.

Hi, I don't know if I really qualify at this time to give you a honest
answer as I am only 3 months post-op. But, I wanted to be of some help.
From the start I have been taking zinc 50 mg. daily, and drinking 70 grahms
of protein daily aside from the protein I get from food. I have found that
my hair is growing faster than ever. I'm not sure if this is because of the
protein and zinc but, of course I don't mind. I really don't know if this
is temporary though and eventually I may lose some. I have been told though
that the protein and zinc combined is very beneficial. Just wanted to give
some input even though I am recent post-op.
