Question:
Exclusion specific

Hi all. I am in desperation now. I started this journey quite some time ago. Now I find that the original surgeon I was seeing, Dr. Greg Tsiotos, from KC, MO, is leaving to go back to Greece. I have found another local surgeon, who is actually closer, however, my insurance has sent me a letter stating that my coverage specifically excludes ANY kind of weight loss programs or surgeries. So, what do I do now? I have written to them explaining my co-morbid condition, including diabetes, borderline hypertension, degenerative bone disease in my back (which can't be corrected while I am at this weight), and sleep apnea. They say their exclusion is regardless of other co-morbid conditions. So, where do I go from here. I am dealing with Healthnet HMO. My husband thinks we should try to switch to the PPO, but they have the same exclusion. Is it hopeless? I have written letters to the president, and other state and federal officials, asking for reform, but lets face it, thats going to be a long way in coming. Any ideas or suggestions. Self pay at this point is not an option. The new surgeon and hospital in question won't take payments. I feel so helpless hopeless.... anybody got a rock I can climb under?    — debra S. Two things, the obesity lawyer Walter Linstrom could appeal for you, I think his web site is www.obesitylawyer.com and there is a surgeon in Grinnel Iowa, Dr. Costner or Coster... he is excellent and many people self pay with him and the total bill is only 9,000 dollars. I have paid more for cars and you will get it back on the money you save on food, medical expense, etc. Good luck.. Jan
