Question:
What is a Gastroenterologist?
After an initial insurance denial, PacifiCare has now given me approval to see a Gastroenterologist. What does this mean? Will this doctor then refer me to a surgeon? I am confused. — Kathleen (. (posted on November 26, 1999)

A Gastroenterologist is a Doctor that specializes in the care and treatment
of the Digestive track...from your esophagus to your anus...where ever food
travels as part of digestion..I saw one to have an endoscopy..a tube is
inserted down your throat where a tiny camera can take photos of your
esophagus and the opening to your stomach ( the pylorus) >Excuse the
spelling. It is painless as they usually either sedate you or knock you
out. Now the question is..who did you see to get your first request for
insurance approval? Perhaps they want you to see a Gastro Dr as part of
your workup to aid in approval. EX: I saw a GastroDr for am endoscopy and a
sonogram, had a psych eval, saw my primary Dr a few times and the surgeon
twice....look into the sequence..but don't worry over the gastroDr....good
luck ! I will have the DS on Dec 2nd ......
