Have you been denied by your insurance company??? Have you already taken
all the steps you can to get it covered? If you had, then go ahead an get
him to help you ... but if you haven't don't just throw away money
needlessly, try for approval on your own through your doctor. If there's a
specific exclusion, you would need a lot of documentation that someone made
a mistake and told you it was covered. I just went through that (I happen
to have a 13 year insurance background) and 5 different people including
the medical reviewer told me it was covered, and only a matter of whether
it would be paid, In Network or Out of Network because I had to go out of
state for my surgery. The day before I was due to leave, my insurance
company faxed me and told me they'd made a mistake, and that it wasn't
covered at all, sorry for the inconvenience. I wrote them back that
evening with a grievance letter siting each individual, name, date and time
and what they said,
indicating that this was covered. I told them they had 24 hours to reverse
their decision and cover this procedure, or they'd be faced with a law suit
immediately upon my return. I copied my attorney and the Insurance
Commissioner in our state. The Insurance company had already precertified
and everything was already arranged, and I'd been through hell personally
in attempt to find a local surgeon, to no avail, plus my fiancee' had
already blocked off a week of patients to be with me for my surgery, and
itemized the monetary expense that had also been made already. They
reversed their decision before the close of business that day, and covered
it in network. Even though I had a very specific exclusion on my policy
for any procedure and very specifically mentioning every type of weight
loss surgery, I was able to get it covered, because 5 people gave me
incorrect information, and I could prove it. Best wishes to you!
Be proactive and work on your behalf, unless you've gone as far as you can
without help!
