Question:
Does insurance cover a tummy tuck and when should you have it done?
I've heard that some actually have a form of this done during the bypass surgery to lesson stress on the incision, and some wait about a year. And is it covered by insurance or is it considered "cosmetic" surgery? — Linda L. (posted on September 23, 1999)

Mine was done at 13 months and was covered as reconstructive. It is a
deformity resulting from a chronic fatal disease I have called morbid
obesity. Not all insurances cover reconstructive, not all docs can write a
good letter to cover it. But if they cover breast reconstruction, at least
there is a chance. I would've waited until I had stabilized to do it, but
I was losing my ins, so it was then or none. Given the choice, I still
wouldn't have done it full sized. Better tuck if you wait.

I'm sorry I do not have an answer, but am interested in someone else's
since I will need to have that procedure done also. Thanks
