Question:
now what????

OK Gang I am approved, the date is set, now what do I do? They will be sending me a pre-op package in the main. With the rny do you need to do a pre-op night clean up?? When I had my hyster in Jan I did it 2 nights before had full liquids the day before untill 6 pm then clear liquids Is it basicly the same procedure?? I am so excited about having this done What kind of pain releif did any one have. Anyone have an epidural for pain control?? I had one with my vbg but that was 10 years ago. Also when I have been put to sleep in the past I wake up throwing my guts up> SOrry for being so wordy but I'm so exicted    — debbie P. (posted on September 2, 1999)

I was on clear liquids the day before surgery. No big deal. Had a morphine drip the first 24 hours or so after surgery, which made me very nauseaus. So they gave me shots for the nausea. And heparin shots (in the stomach). Was very ready to go home when they released me. My surgery was Tuesday a.m. and I went home Friday a.m. My hospital stay was not my most wonderful experience so I was happy to go home. At home I had liquid Tylenol for the pain, but I only took it once because it caused by to become violently ill. Turned out I wasn't in so much pain that I wanted to go through that a second time. Good luck to you. It is kind of like childbirth. In a couple of months you won't remember the worst parts of it and you'll be doing so well you would do it again in a heartbeat anyway.

CONGATULATIONS!!!!! I know you are pleased to finally have a day scheduled. Yes with RNY you have to be on clear liquids for 2 days before surgery and do a bowel prep. You have to drink an awful product ( or I did anyway) called golytely. It is really digusting but worth the trouble to not get an infection. I was very very sore by the evening before my surgery, so maybe you should invest in some vaseline. Bottom was so very tender. Sorry to be so blunt but it hurt:) I had my surgery first thing in the am so no liquids after 8pm. I woke up very nauseaus in the recovery room and was given somethin immediately. Also got a pain med in racovery. Then had a drug called dilotted for pain on the button you have control of. I am allergic to morphine so that is whay they didn't give me that. It will be ok just don't eat too much between now and then. I gained 10 pounds after i got my date, eating all of the things i couldn't eat later.:)LOL Again congrats!! you won't be sorry you are doing this. I have lost 57 pounds since June 17th this year. Debbie .... Your gonna be so clean, your gonna whistle when you walk! Dr. Lirio, my surgeon, had me on Medifast for two weeks prior to surgery, then clear liquids, i believe for 48 hours prior. I did 900 enemas and had to drink at least three truck loads of disgusting things! .. obviously, I am kidding ... You will have to do the normal prep stuff to make sure your cleaned out, but ya know what ... I would have had those 900 enemas & drank the truck loads of stuff if I new everything would turn out as well as it did. Oh, and something else you should start doing ... exercise, this will get you ready so that after the surgery you will be able to begin a routine program as soon as the doc says its ok. Remember .. Every doctor has a different protocol. These are things you should discuss with your doctor or his nurse ... the pre-op pacakage you mention will likely answer all these questions, if it doesn't ... give them a call. My thoughts and prayers will be with you as you enter into this new phase of your life :)
