I used to have bad knee pain, especially toward the end of a long day. It is gone. Even the pain I used to get in my wrist is gone.

Before my surgery both of my knees and my right hip hurt alot of the time especialy if I had to move around. It's been 2 months since I had it done Ive lost 45 pounds and walk a mile a day with no pain in my knees or hip.

YES :) Our bodies aren't meant to carry as much excess baggage as some of us do/did! I still have arthritis, but the severity of the pain has lessened tremendously! Before my surgery, I couldn't walk more than a car length (literally) without my legs and back beginning to throb, and becoming so winded, I'd have to stop and rest ... That makes it difficult to do ANYTHING! Good luck! Keep us posted :)

I had pain in my hip and both knees prior to surgery. By the time I had lost 50 pounds all the pain was gone. It was simply my weight that was causing the pain.

Yep. everything hurt before surgery (when I was 400 pounds) esp my lower back and my legs and very esp my knees. As the weight started coming off I found that the pain lessened and I even started exercising to strengthen some of the leg muscles (to help ward off knee replacement surgery for my left knee). I am just about pain free now (except for a bit of muscle ache when I skip the gym for a few days.) Good luck. it's a great new life Susan [email protected]

I have genetic osteo-arthritis. Did for years, but docs don't see it when you're full size. So, it goes undiagnosed and untreated. Once 112 lbs, well then it's EASY to see the deformity. So, yes, the joint pain is better now. MUCH better. Between the treatment and the smaller me, it's just much better. Since, I've been to physical therapy and learned some simple exercises that help, too. Getting it diagnosed is the tricky part!

Before the surgery, I suffered from extreme attacks of gout. I would get it so bad in my foot that I couldn't walk for days. since the surgery, which was almost 4 months ago, I haven't had an attack.

Before I had surgery I was taking antinflamatories and three x-tra strength tynenol twice a day. 2 weeks before surg I went off the antinflamatories but stayed on tylenol. Surgery went well and by the time I got home my knees were starting to feel better. Now after 2 1/2 months they are much better and I can walk further without pain.

In answer to Joni's question. I had terrible ankle and knee pain before surgery. After losing 200lbs, my knees, back and ankles feel 75% better. And it didn't take losing 200lbs to feel like this, I felt better after the first 50 to 75lbs. Hope the same happens for you. (\O/) Blessings, Bev. I had joint pain in my knees before surgery and in my back as well. After I lost the weight, the pain subsided. Both knees and back are pain free at my current weight. I know my weight was the reason for the pain. I didn't want to admit it at that time but I knew that it was.

Yes, I had a lot of joint pain before my surgery. So much that I was unable to work. I had surgery 04/27/99, I have lost 70+ pounds and over 65 inches. I don't have the joint pain I use to. I cannot say I never have pain anymore, that would be a lie, but, It is nothing like it use to be. On top of that, I now work full time and run our home. I have so much energy I practically have to beat my poor hubby up just to make sure he leaves all the yard work for me to do.
