Hints on getting approved
I was wondering if anyone could give me some hints on how to get Tricare to approve this surgery. — Nicole S. (posted on March 30, 1999)

I have tricare my husband is military I had the RNY done. But a military
captain did it at the military instulation. He was trained to do this
procedure and now thats all he does. Are you military. e-mail me if any

tricare is excellent to have if you want bariatric surgery. I was approved
by them in 2 days. I have no comorbidities, did not have to have psych
eval., did not have to prove past dieting history, nothing! I am 285#'s
and that was all they really needed. My PCP put in the consult request,
tricare set me up with a surgeon, had appointment with him, he sent request
for preauthorization to tricare and it was approved 2 days after they
received it. Good luck.

I was just denied by TriCare! The letter states that the denial was because
"reliable evidence demonstrates that further studies or clinical
trials are necessary to determine its saftey and efficacy as compared with
standard means of treatment". Now, how do you go about appealing THAT?
