I was for over 10 years don't know how much over 10 for sure but I will
tell you that withing 8 weeks after surgery I was off all diabetic meds. I
was taking the maxium dose of glucophage and actos and 2 insulin injections
a day. Now I run blood sugars in the 80's - 90's all the time and once in
a while will have problems with it getting too low. This is the best thing
I could have done for myself and my son. If you have any specific question
e-mail me...Nancy

I WAS a diabetic for 25 years, I had my surgery on December 7th,2004 and to
date have lost 105 pounds, I have not had to take insulin (I was on the
pump)for 6 months now.
I check my blood sugar 2 times a week and have never in my life felt so
good.
My procedure was the best thing I have done for my self as it saved my
life.
Good luck to you on your journey.

I have been diabetic for 23 years. I was on 32 units of insulin per day
and several oral meds to help control it, I kept getting bigger and bigger,
and the meds kept having to be increased. Six months after I had WLS I was
off all meds and insulin, and my blood sugars have been normal since then,
and I still check it every now and then and still have my HbA1c checked
along with my other labs, to make sure my body is in perfect working order.
It feel so good to be off a meds, except for vitimans. Good luck on your
journey. Rosemary

I have been a Type 1 Diabetic for 32 years, and I am almost 39 now. I had
open RNY 2 years ago and have lost around 90lbs. Every pound lost after
the first 50 has been a struggle, not from the lack of trying but because
of the brittle Diabetes. I feel much better, but watching out for low
blood sugars is a pain. Because I will always be on insulin, I have to be
very careful and sometimes I am forced to eat even when not hungry if blood
sugar is low. I am glad I had RNY and that I healed well.
