Question:
Having A LOT of epigastric/ upper back pain 15 months out!

I am having A LOT of epigastric pain, excessive gas, and upper back pain between the should blades. When this happens, I also have a severe headache. I have been on Nexium since my surgery and can not wean myself off of it. I have been tested postoperatively for H-Pylori and it was negative. There are days that I CAN'T eat anything or drink. I am chronically dehydrated since I have trouble drinking with this pain. What can be wrong and what can I do about it? I am taking the Nexium, Zantac and Pepto Bismol.    — glensjtarr (posted on March 30, 2005)

Hi Glenda. I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I will pray that you find out what your pain is and get over it quick. Have you talked to your doctor yet? Cathy

HI, I have been having similar problems and I actually ended up in the emergency room last week. I went to go see a gastroenterologist and he suggested that I may have pancreatitis, a tear in pouch, or something wrong with my gallbladder. Either way it was/is excrutiating pain. I have a ct scan scheduled as well as an endoscopy and colonoscopy. I guess what I am saying is you know your body. It took me a trip to the dr. and emergency room before a they referred me to a specialist. My dr. wouldn't touch me because I had a gastric bypass. The emergency just gave me morphine and sent me home with painkillers. If you are not better or satisfied with the treatment. See someone else...better safe than sorry

I had a problem with Nexium, I have an ulcer but the nexium constantly made me sick, I was told not to take Pepto after Bariatric because of the risk of GI bleeding due to the small amount of aspirin in it. Check it out, every doc is different, Instead of weaning off Nexium, try another type of the same medicine, Acifex, prevacid, maybe a change will help. I have found..Pain...NOT GOOD, get another opinion, good luck

Glenda, Do you still have your gallbladder? Sounds kinda typical for gall bladder pain. You might have it checked.
