Question:
Any ladies get EXCESSIVE water retention around their cycle

I develop excessive water retention only before my cycle-I started the pill 2 months ago and that han't helped I am getting it just as bad as I did before. I can put on almost close to 10lbs and it takes a long time to drop off-It took me some time to realize what it was because it kinda happens overnight-I've tried diurex and aqua ban na even mentioned it to my primary care and she said that it vaies with women and I jut have to let it pass. I don' get swollen ankles or anything that be similar to edema. It is just mainly making me feel and look huge like I suck my stomach and when I let it out i look like I could be pregnant by a few months-I feel and look like roly poly ollie-HELP I'm at my wits end. I'm gonna try and herbal diuretic and by the way I already checked I'm not pregnant-that jut goes to show how bad it is I was second guessing mself-GEEZ!!!!!    — TotallyTori (posted on March 1, 2005)

Mine is not quite as bad as yours, I only gain 5 pounds each month..I take midol menstarl complete and for a few days before as well as during my perios and it seems to help me. I almost always graze during that time too and I know that helps with the weight gain..I usually lose the extra weight in the week after my period is over..

I gain between 4 to 7 lbs. the week of my period and it takes almost 1 to 1-1/2 weeks to get it back off. I know it is water weight because it almost always happens overnight. I weigh myself first thing every morning and the Monday of my period week my weight shoots up.<p> I would watch the diaretics. I heard your body gets used to them and you have to keep upping the dosage or they could cause you to retain more water. I have just come to accept this and know there is no way I could eat enough to gain that much weight over night. I know the water retention is ending when I end up in the bathroom every 1/2 hour. Good luck.

I gain about 5-10 pounds the day before my period. It also kind of happens overnight, but it all goes away within a couple of days. I use to literally flip out, because here I would gain 10 pounds. I worked hard to lose all of the weight I lost then I was gaining it back every month. Then when I realized what it was, I was ok with it. I lose it in a couple of days, then I am back with my life. When you gain it, I would just take caution with what you eat. That is what I do and it seems to work out ok. Good luck to you.

I have had so many female issues since I lost the weight, I guess a small price to pay for so many other rewards...but I notice that I also get hugely bloated, way worse than I used to, I have to go up an entire pants size and I can fluctuate up to 5 pounds in a matter of days. I am not sure of the cause, but I guess I feel better that I am not the only one who has this problem. I would guess if we were better about drinking more water (which I admit I am not) we wouldn't store as much in our bodies. Let me know if you figure this one out!
