I actually had this issue too. My Dr. gave me muscle relaxers and after the
fourth day it reduced and finally went away 10 days later. You might want
to speak to your Dr's nurse in regards to this ;)

I, too, had the same type of pain but from a different cause. I had a
problem with constipation and was straining to go. After that I noticed
some mild pain in my belly. Having already experienced an umbilical hernia
I went to my doctor yesterday to have it checked. She poked around and said
she didn't feel a hernia (phew) but was impressed with my abdominal muscle
tone (that's a first in my life, apparently those sit ups do work.) Anyway,
she told me to lay off of the sit ups and abdominal exercises for a while
to let it heal and I go back next month to get checked again. So it could
be a pulled muscle or it could be the start of a hernia. The bottom line
was I wanted to be sure so I didn't aggravate the problem so I made an
appointment with my PCP just to get it checked out. I'd rather be safe than
sorry. Best wishes for health and happiness.

I have the same problem. I had my surgery 12/13/04 and this is a continuing
problem. I was "better" for a while and did something to
"pull" something inside too. My surgeon put me back on pain
killers and that helps a little. I found that a heating pad helps alot and
also, my hubby bought me one of those stomach support things (used for
working out) and WOW what a difference!!!! It gives total support and the
pain is almost non-existant when I have it on! Give that a try. My surgeon
was concerned about a hernia too, I have my appointment next week. Make
sure you tell yours about your pain so you can be checked. Hope my
suggestions help! Hang in there girl!

Still have that problem. My surgery was 09/29/04. Got so bad ended up in
the ER. Couldnt stand up. (ER visit early part of January) ER dr thought
it was ulcers. Went to my Dr 2 days later and come to find out it was the
muscles around the incision area of my new stomach and old stomach. He has
put me on pain meds. There is another patient with the same problem. I do
believe it will go away soon. Had the same problem when I had my c-section
in December 2003. Muscle pain was really bad for about 5 months then
suddenly it disappeared.

Hello all!
I had a devil of a time with abdominal pain as a post op. I went to my PCP
several times and had MANY perscriptions for liritab elixer( AKA-Loritab
Juice). This elixer is great for pain but did not handle the abdominal
muscle tear pain. Remember that your surgeon had to cut through several
layers of skin and muscle to perform your surgery.
I went to my Surgeon for my rechecks and by 3 months out I was at the
point of telling him that if he could not help me end the abdominal pain
that I wanted the procedure reversed. I was in tears while driving home
from yet another appointment to discuss the pain when I called my best
friend and Nursing school classmate Teresa. She stated "You dont need
pain meds, you need a Muscle relaxer". I got off the cell phone with
her and called my PCP and got an appointment for an hour later. I related
to him what Teresa explained to me, and he appologized for not thinking of
that himself. He gave me a muscle relaxer prescription for Flexeril, I will
repeat that again FLEXERIL. With in 2 weeks of using the muscle relaxer and
wearing an abdominal binder 24/7 the muscle had time to heal and I was
feeling almost normal. If I werer you, I would call your doctor ASAP and
ask about the flexeril and a binder. The binder can run about 60.00 for a
very wide double height binder. You can purchase one form a medical supply
store, or ask the doctor for a prescription for one and it should be
covered by insurance. If you have trouble getting one, I would not mind
mailing one of my extra ones to you, as I have several of them.
Let me know how things go. I wish you the best of luck.

I just want to thank everybody for answering this question. I am 6.5 weeks
post op, had open roux en y and my abdominal pain had disappeared, but it
came back about 3 days ago. I could eat and drink and was not nauseous but
I was really worried. After your answers i feel that i must have done
something to pull my muscle. The pain is at the top of my incision to the
left. is that where most of the posters pain was? I think i will call my
surgeon's office on monday and see if he will prescribe Flexeril. once
again, thanks for putting my mind at ease!
