Question:
How can I stop losing so much weight?
I can not tolerate milk or sugar. I am down to a size 2 and would like to be a size 6. I am still losing inches. I need to stop. I am 2 years out and still losing. Help! — Sherry B. (posted on January 15, 2005)

Have you tried adding carbs to your diet? Start with fruits that you
tolerate. Other complex carbs etc..add them as snacks etc between meals.
That should at least allow you to STOP losing. What does your doctor say?

I am struggling with the same issues. My surgeons goal for me was 150.
Mine was 140. i got to 134-137 and was fine with it. Got to 128. That
was okay too. not trying to lose. I now weigh 112 up from my low of 109.
I look awful and am too skinny even tho I am short. My doc said to up my
carbs, add high calorie foods and eat lots of hi calorie snacks and drink a
little with my meals. This drinking with meals pushes some food out of your
pouch enabling you to eat a little more and also more often. None of it
has worked. I have been without my protein shakes for a couple of months.
I mix mine with milk. I recently added them back so I am hoping i will
gain at least 10 pounds. I am two years out too and still losing hair.

What dose your doctor say about this? he or she should know what to tell
you to stop it.

What is your vitamin/protein supplement regimen? How does your food day go?
I don't think it's a bad thing at all to not tolerate milk or sugar.
Regain is much more an issue with us (over time) than too thin. UNLESS you
are undernourished. How tall are you?

Sherry:
So glad to hear others post on this question, and hear that you are having
this problem. Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy you HAVE the problem, but
I don't feel alone. For 2 years I was proud that I kept my weight in a 5
lb radius, with 129 being my low. Imagine my surprise this winter when I
began to lose weight again... I usually wear a size 6-7, now I'm into a
3-4. I weighed 118 this morning, and nothing fits everything is too small
again. I say again because during my first year I got down to a
frightening 114, which scared me because I'm 5'7", and I don't look
good or FEEL good at anything under 120. In the past I drank as many
Starbucks Carmel Machiato's made with whole cream as I could handle, it
looks like I'll be hitting the machiatto's again. If you can tolerate them
I highly recommend it, otherwise add as much cream as you can handle in
your coffee. The other thing I heard was Ensure, it's high calorie
replacement food, and has more vitamins than a carmel machiato...They use
it for cancer patients having chemo when they can't tolerate anything.
Good luck, and as I am now watching desperate housewives I have at least
come up with a posative I'm looking at Terri Hatcher, and hey we're
probably thinner than her, probably we're thinner than any of em!

I had this issue as well. My nutritionist suggested to eat more frequent
meals that consisted of protien and veggies/fruits. She warned me not to
go for the quick fix of carbs and sugars, that I would regret it later.
Well, she was right. For a year...a YEAR, I ate anything and everything I
could get my hands on and never gained a pound. I ate peanut M&M's
like they were going out of style. Ice Cream...crackers, chips, hot
chocolate, starbucks...anything! All of a sudden my pants were starting to
get tight..and boom I gained 15-20 pounds almost over night. I've lost 10
of it and am moderately comfortable with that fact..(keeps trying to
convince myself of that) Just be careful.

Sherry,
It would be easier to help if you listed what you're eating in a day, but
my guess is that you really don't eat enough often enough. If you're only
eating half a cup three times a day, that's not nearly enough. I'm a
runner 11 months out and still weigh nearly 150 but wear a size 6. I'm
5'4" and run at least 15 miles a week - more when I'm training for
something special. Anyway, what I'm getting at is I eat yogurt with grape
nuts before my runs, oatmeal when I get to work, lunch is 3-4 oz meat and
some veggies, a snack at 3 which is usually a piece of fruit or some
crackers, and then dinner which is about the same as lunch. I eat a lot,
and I need to, or I get hypoglycemic. Like I said, if you're not eating
enough often enough, you will continue to lose. DON'T BE AFRAID OF FOOD!!!
You can't be healthy unless you're eating enough. Linn
