Question:
What if you do not pass the test for the lung capicity?
I am scheduled for surgery the 25th of January. I just found out that I have to have a lung test done. I quit smoking after 30 years 5 months ago and I know my lungs is not in the best of shape. If I do not pass the test does this mean they will not do surgery? — Deb S. (posted on January 5, 2005)

hi
im debbie too
and i smoked for 13 years and quit a week before surgery i also had the
lung test done and passed the respitory therapist said i had great lungs
considering i was a smoker. I remained smoke free for a week post op too
and well ashamed to say i am smoking again. During the nere two weeks i
wasnt smoking I could tell the difference BIG TIME. Now i got that smokers
cough and everything else back with it. That being said i think after 5
months youll do amazing with it. I wouldnt worry one lil bit. By the way
congratulations on quitting and your new life thats about to start

Hi, I don't know that there is a pass/fail on the resportory (sp) unless
you've got really horrible lungs. I was a smoker for 25 years I quit in 99
has WLS in 03. I have asthma and COPD. I think this test if just to find
out how your lungs are so they are prepared for any problems. Good Luck
