Question:
Post Op Elevated Liver Enzymes
Hi.... I'm 9.5 month post op and just had some lab work done and it showed that my Liver Functions Test(AST & ALT) were elevated. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else???? I'm kinda worried! I'm taking my vitamins(reg and calcium) and getting in my protien, though I'm still having trouble with the water on most days. Help if you can! Thanks!! — Pretty P. Slightly elevated IS normal for us. That doesn't make it ok, just makes it
common. There are several questions you might ask yourself. How is your
water (as in WATER)? Do you drink alcohol (livers don't like it)? Do you
take much Tylenol (some is ok, much is not)? Do you snuggle up close to
your cleaning chemicals (using is ok, inhaling is not)? HOW elevated? Do
you take milk thistle (livers like this)? And finally, what does your
vitamin regimen consist of?

Hello, I am 7 months post op and I had my blood work done also. I have
elevated liver functions also. I asked my surgeon about it and he said that
it is not uncommon and not to worry about it. Thats what I found out. Hugs,

Not to worry...I am pre op and my liver enzymes have been elevated due to
rapid weight loss. This was confirmed by my Doctor at Pacific Bariatric.
So with that said, I know you have had rapid weight loss because you are
already post op. {{{{{HUGS}}}}} Melissa A

That's about the point that mine shot up (9.5 months post-op). They stayed
up for a long time, then gradually dropped down over time. Still, they
remain above the "normal" range but have been stable for me for
awhile now (I'm over 2.5 years post-op). It's not uncommon.

Hi, Mine were elevated also, and the doctor suggested I be retested in
several months. That will be in the next week or so. Like the other
poster, it is common, but should not be ignored. I take my vitamins daily
and eat reasonably. I don't drink alcohol or take tylenol so it couldn't
be either of those things. It would be interesting to follow this, so
everyone keep posting about your Liver Function Tests (AST & ALT)
Levels. Thanks, Dana
