Question:
LOOKING FOR THE BEST AT HOME WORKOUT

I have a lateral thigh trainer, hand and wrist weights, and toning cords. I am looking for the best, most effective at-home workout routine. Help!    — Karen K. (posted on November 4, 2004)

I enjoyed the Leslie Sansone tapes very much when I was in my first year post-op. I especially like the ones with the bands. There was a 1 mile tape, a 2 mile tape and a 3 mile tape.

I love the stability ball, its fun, its a good work out and you can do it in the same clothes you wore to work! LOL! There's a chart that comes with the ball to show you what to do for what you want to achieve. Also I love the old Richard Simmons dance to the oldies tapes, they are so much fun to do it feels like dancing, not exercising! I have worn one of those completely out and had to find a new one on Ebay, but again, a great workout and FUN not torture! Good Luck!

I have been doing Bill Phillips' program, Body For Life, for five months now and can't imagine life without it. I bought the book at Books a Million and paid a good bit for it, but it was incredibly worth it. It's very dense with information. There are also journals and tapes, but I didn't need those. (You can find the book for cheaper on ebay.) There's a description of my workouts in my profile, close to the bottom. Good luck!

I suggest two videos: Tae-Bo, and Buns of Steel, "Aerobic". These are fun, upbeat, and give your whole body and heart a good work out.

I have a Health Rider that I've used for years when I want to start getting into shape. (I have not had surgery yet...but this machine really works.) I lost a about 60 pounds doing it and did not realize how fit I was until I went to a gym and was tested. After going to the gym for 6 months, my results were better, as far as strength went, doing the health rider. You work against your own body weight and there is no pressure on your joints. It works cardio and your muscles at the same time. I just put on a CD and worked on doing a little more each day. Before long, I was up to 1000 reps. (If I tried now, I'd be able to do about 100 before passing out!) I found the music really helped me. (Dirty Dancing sound track was my favorite.) Good luck! (PS: When I first saw an infomercial for this device, I thought it looked like a giant sex machine and thought, "I could do that"! :-) It really wasn't as easy as it looked.
