Question:
I am 6 weeks post-op and have had allergic reactions since my Lap-RNY.
I have done the prednisone treatment twice in the last 6 weeks, but as soon as it's out of my system, the hives return. ALl the blood allergy tests come back normal - that I have no food allergies. I have not changed a thing (ie. soap, detergent, etc.) since the surgery. I am reacting to the sun, to perfume I always wore, to almost everything on my skin. The allergist says that since the surgery, my body is in a "hyper-sensitive mode". I just can't take it amymore though. Does anyone think that I might be allergic to the staples or the (bovine pericardium) steri-strips inside me? Is that possible? My surgeon says that she's never heard of it. You can email me privately at [email protected] Thank you... Joanne Means — Joanne M. (posted on September 9, 2004)

My daughter had been breaking out in hives last spring. This happened for
months. I self treated her at first. I didn't change soaps, shampoos,
detergents, etc. I also sent her to an allergist still no changes nor
findings. Finally they went away about mid June. She hasnt had them since.
I think it was just the air in general and the mold count. Good luck. Jen:)
