Question:
normal weight loss?? 4 months post op?
I started at 213 pounds pre op and now weigh 160. That is four months post op however. Does this seem slow to anyone or am I just impatient. I have only lost 53 pounds. I exercise , get my protein and water everyday. thanks — Rhonda G. (posted on September 6, 2004)

Rhonda, that does not seem slow at all. How tall are you? You must not
have really been that big to begin with. Try starting at 389 lbs and then
that might be considered slow. What is your goal weight? 53 lbs is a
great weight loss.

Really, how could you ever think 53lbs. in four months as being slow? Did
you ever lose that much by dieting in that amount of time pre-op? Perhaps
you should look at this more logically.

Only 53 lbs! Come on that is a great weight loss for four months. Be
patient, the surgery is not a miracle but a tool. I am guessing in 4
months you are half way to goal. Don't compare yourself to others, some
start out weighing much much more and will lose at a faster rate...when you
weigh less it is going to be different. Just relax, chill and keep doing
what you are doing..eating right and exercising!

Rhonda--53 pounds is great!! I can't wait to weigh 160. I am 15 weeks out
today--will be 4 months on Sept 25th. As of this morning I have lost 54.4
pounds--but I started out at 247 and am now 192.6. I too have worried
about my SLOW weight loss and have come to finally realize that weight loss
is a very individual matter. Things that have helped me are keeping track
of my measurements. I have my hubby take them every Saturday morning.
I've heard that having someone else do it is more accurate and I know it
keeps me honest! I may go a week and not lose any weight but if I lose a
fraction of an inch anywhere--I am making progress. I also chart my weight
loss. I have a chart for each month and one that is begins at the
beginning and will go through my journey until I reach my goal. Hope this
helps. Keep your chin up you are doing great!!

I started at 274, am now 214. I am 5'2" and have lost 60 so far. Had
my surgery 4/23/04. Sounds like we are doing about the same.

Sounds like you're doing great. I know I went thru a period of thinking I
wasn't losing well because I had a friend who lost so much more quickly
than I did. She'd lost 68 pounds in only 8 weeks and I was really
depressed. But after about 4 months or so...maybe 6 months, I realized my
friend is in the minority and I was in the majority. I am currently 8
months out and have lost 108 pounds. I'm averaging throughout the entire 8
months (it's slowing down now a little more) about a little over 3 pounds
per month. My surgeon says this is completely average and I've accepted it
and am so grateful to God for this amount of weight loss. Good luck thru
the rest of your journey and God bless.
