In my opinion the gastric bypass wasnt the cause of her death. Sounds like
she had an emergency situation with a strangulated hernia that wasnt
diagnosed in time. Plus the fact that she weighed 440 and being pregnant
at that weight,, thats a major risk factor of itself. My sympathy to the
famliy. I just hope they don't start using this as one of the many ways of
saying that RNY is dangerous.

I agree with the last poster. I had a major hernia after I had a
hysterechtomy, does that mean they should stop doing those too? Hernias
can occur after any surgery. It's one of the risks. I'm sorry that she
died and her baby too, but to blame it soley on the gastric bypass is
irresponsible.

Incisional hernias are extermely rare in LAP surgeries, well under 1% ,
although my surgeon says about 30% of opens get at least one hernia...
