Question:
new hair has come in curly!

am 14 months post and at goal of 124- lost a good bit of hair 4-7 months out but it all seems to have grown back in and is in pretty good shape now- however, my hair has always been straight as a board and i now have hair so curly i look like i've gotten a permanent! and not just the new hair, all of it- has this happened to anyone else? is it fairly common? am not complaining- just find it amazing- i always wanted curly hair and at age 51 i have it!    — Treva F. My hair has ALWAYS been curly and I HATE IT. However since WLS, it is EXTREMELY curly. So since WLS, I bought a hair cutting kit and I shave it off close to my head. It looks terrible, but I'd rather be a skin head than a "curly head". lol What ticks me off is I really want to buy a wig so I can have the straight hair and style I want... that I've always wanted. But I can't find anywhere to buy a man's wig. :( Your lucky you got the hair you want. I'm almost 47 and my hair has gone from bad to nightmare.

Mine did the exact same thing Triva. I always had straight as a board hair, and now its curly. I am enjoying it, I don't even dry my hair now, except for the bangs, just add a little product to help define the curls, and head out the door. Wendy

This is so funny.I'm sitting here 2 months post-op and praying that as my hair falls out that it will come back curly.I spend a fortune on perms every year and this would truly be a blessing.

My hair has always been wavy/curly and was hard to style. It just did whatever it wanted to. I always wanted straighter hair. Ever since surgery five months ago it has grown in straight but I still have body. Its much easier to get what I want it to do. I am thrilled with this change!

i am 17 months post op and still losing some hair but I do have a little new growth and it is gray or i should say white and curly. Just enough curl to stick out and wave in places i don't want curls or waves.

Hi Treva! I'm 1 year and 1 month out, and didn't really lose my hair, but have noticed that it has a lot more body to it now and is growing about 1 1/2 inches every 6 weeks, where before it was about 1/2 inch. I did, however, go through chemotherapy back in 2000, lost all of my curly (and I hated curly, having had it my enire life) hair, and it came back in straight, but had some curl...enough where I could get it to do what I wanted with the blow dryer, and from an auburnish kind of brown, is now a real true auburn that I am in love with. I am glad you are happy with the curls! Enjoy it...funny how you are thrilled with the curls, having had straight hair, and I am thrilled with the straight, having had curly.

Like Donna, I had curly, got straight. The only curl I have left is around my ears. Since I am a redhead, I call 'em my Bozo Tufts. Since my WLS was 10 yrs ago, I can't say the color changed, except, of course, for the addition of white ones! I've seen the straight to curly thing in others. One of the girls in my group got hair so uniformly and perfectly curled that it looked like a soft perm. She cut is stylishly short and it looked fabulous, no frizz like my natural curls had.

Hi Trevia, I had the exactly the same thing! I loved it! The only thing is it only thing is that it only lasted about 6 to 9 months. It sure was nice while it lasted!

Treva: Fortunately, I did not have a lot of hair loss...I started taking the Biotin 2500 about a month before my surgery (July 12, 2002) and continue to this day. However, my Mom had to have radiation and chemo for cancer (that she beat, Thank God!) and she did lose all her hair. She too had always had very straight, fine hair. When it initially grew back, it was thicker and VERY curley. About six to nine months out it went back to being straight and fine. Christine

yes, i lost some hair about 7-10 months post-op, and i now have more full hair, and my hair is much more wavy now, where before it was, like you said, straight as a board.

I also lost some hair. I am now over 2 years post op and my hair that has grown back grew back curly, and still is. I'm having my panniculectomy on 8/24/04 may after that it will go back to straight.(I can only hope)
