Question:
Approval with no comorbidities?
I have UnitedHealthcare POS and have a BMI of 49. I have no diagnosed comorbidities. Can I get approved by United based solely on my BMI? — Robin S. (posted on July 18, 2004)

I had no comorbidities either and my BMI was the same as yours and I got
approved after 1st try. I think the standard is 35 - 40 you have to have
comorbidities and above 40 your BMI alone will usually qualify you. Good
luck!

I had no other comorbidities and a BMI of 42 - and was approved by my
secondary insurance on the first try. (My primariy is United also - but
have an exclusion in my company's policy for the surgery)
Be sure you can show you have tried many different diets for long period of
time w/ no results.

I had a BMI of 39.5 w/ no comorbidities. My health insurance is United
Health Care. I was certain that they were going to turn me down, but in 28
days I was approved. Good Luck!

Jennifer's right. Almost all insurance companies use the same weight
criteria. As long as your BMI is over 40 you should meet the criteria.
