Question:
Funding gift bags ?
Hi all. A co-worker and I are getting ready to start a program that puts together gift bags to give out to everyone who is having the surgery. We work for a large hospital in Eastern Maine. I was wondering if anyone knows of places that give out grants or funding for something like this. We are getting a bunch of help from the local Weight Loss Surgery program but I am just looking for other avenues we can try for funding. Any help would be great. Thanks! Tami. I don't know of any funding but I would like to know how this goes
for you as I would love to do something similar here in Houston. Best
wishes. Carolyn

Well you might get companies that sell stuff to post ops to contribuite
samples. GNC might contribuite protein powder sample packs figuring the new
postie may be needing these. Good advertising you can make use of:) Coupons
for personal trainers, free one time visits to gyms, there are all sorts of
stuff to sell to a WLS patient. Barbara Thompson has that wonderful book.
She has a referral program. Send her customers she sends you a buck or two
for the referral. You can use this money to buy stuff for the gift bags.
Think of consinement clothing shops, places that sell exercise equiptement
they might give you some referral money too. I wish you well on the effort
try to avoid blatantly selling stuff just more of making people aware its
available. Put up a web page for your program and charge a small fee to
advertisers. Please let us know how it goes, as others might be interested
too.

I think this is an awesome idea! Where were you when I had WLS? LOL Like
the other posts, just check the health food stores, gyms, and other avenues
that give out free samples or trial memberships to their gyms. Check with
some of the other WLS posties and see of they would donate $$$ or items!
You may even want to check with local churches and or support groups and
even doctors offices and pharmacies that may want to donate $$$ or items
for WLS. Also, a lot of churches ladies groups get together around here
and have bake sales and craft sales for various reasons. Being a postie
myself, I benefited from one such fundraiser. The church that I attend had
a fundraiser dinner and thanks to them I walked into my surgeons office
$250 more than I needed for my surgery! There are a lot of good people out
there who love others and will help with the cause.....just because!!!
Hope this gives you some ideas and please let us know how it goes. I would
love to do something like this area!

Hi Tami,Im pre-op and i think this is a great idea.i would contact companys
that make the protien bars or shakes and ask then to donate. also contact a
local and ask if youcan get gift certificates for a session with a trainer
or a month free. curves might do this for you. mabe be poland springs can
give you sports bottles or at lest bottles of water. think about what you
needed when you had your sx and go from there. maybe stoffer's or weight
watches will give you coupons for a few dinners to get patienst started on
the right track. i know that www.lifechoicefoods.com willl send coupons.
also kellogs can help with bars &cereal. all the best. Tracey
