It's up to your Dr. They let us go to the gym after 1 week. Weight
training after a month (no abs of course).
Personally I went to the gym at 2 mos post-op starting weight training at 4
mos post op. Tried some abs work around 6 mos.

This is a question you should really have your surgeon answer. Each doctor
has his/her own rules when it comes to exercise. You will get a lot of
answers here to that question but most people here (myself included) are
not medical clinicians and they really do not have the medical background
to give an answer to this. Only your doctor knows exactly what your
limitations are and how much you should be doing at any point of your post
op time. I know this is probably not the answer that you had hoped for but
I always hesitate to give this kind of advise. Christine open RNY 5/7/03

Ahh your one of schauers group of surgeons. He was asked about this at the
last meeting and said generally after one month for LAP RNY. But you really
must ask about you, for your own safety. you have a excellent surgeon with
a good support staff. I hopwe you attend some support group meetings

You must check with your own surgeon, but my surgeon told me I could walk
30 minutes a day at my two week post op visit. At my 4 week post op visit,
he told me I could start an exercise program. I joined a gym for women
called Contours. It only takes 30 minutes to do the whole program. I
can't do 4 of the 10 machines due to an injury to my back and broken hip.
So, I do a 4 minute bike ride (that takes me a mile), then do the six
machines I can do, then another 4 minute bike ride (another mile) and then
my stretches. If no one is waiting in line behind me for the machine I'm
on, I do each machine twice. In between each machine you have a springy
thing to walk, jog, jump on and also a single step. You are on each
machine 45 seconds and each springy thing or step thing 45 seconds also.
The stretches last 30 seconds each. Again, check with your surgeon...they
have their own rules. But joining Contours has been the best thing I've
done. They have someone there at all times to help out and answer
questions. They don't leave you alone until you've gone through everything
on at least 4 visits or so. Hope this helps...Kathy
