Question:
Just found out home scale is off by 10lbs!!!-Major Depression

I have been thinking my home scale had me at 227 when I went to the surgeons office about 3 weeks ago his said I was 238 and I thought that was way off. I got on the GNC scale today with my jeans, sneakers, and shirt on and their scale said 235-My scale this morning said I was 224-225-So I am now depressed. I mean at least I'm 3 pounds down but I'm still very depressed about the 10 lb difference that just means now i have like another 60lbs to lose-UGHHHHHHH and aunt flo will be coming to town soon and my cravings are out of control. Today I had a protein shake, 50oz of water, went to dinner with my family tonight and ate a few pieces of chicken out of some chicken soup, 5 large french fries and about 1-1.5 cup of grilled buffalo chicken salad. Then after dinner about 15-20 minutes later they just had to go to the ice cream parlor and I had 2-3 bites of chocolate cheesecake-Craving chocolate like crazy, 1 teeny weeny forkful of choc cake, and one forkful of regular ice cream-I feel like such a glutton    — TotallyTori (posted on March 27, 2004)

Victoria, Why feel badly over your food choices? Where will guilt and sadness get you? You already ate the food, it's most likely digested at this point, you can't take it back...so chalk it up as an oopsie and start all over tomorrow with choices you and your surgeon deem ideal and good! I hate to think you're beating yourself up over that. Nobody makes 100% perfect choices 100% of the time. CONGRATULATIONS, you are HUMAN! :0) As for the 10 pound descrepancy...I looked at your profile and you've lost over 100 pounds! That is so awesome! The rest of the weight will come off, but in the meantime: WOW. You have lost over 100 pounds. How cool are you? And I bet you feel so much better and look terrific. Congrats on that, as well. It probably still stings, but I just wanted to let you know that I think you are doing mah-vah-lously, dah-ling.

Remember your next bite you are back on track. You can do it and don't worry you are not alone.

Boy can I relate. At about 7 months postop I found out my scale was defective and had been weighing me 14lbs too low. Since I had purchased this scale for $150 preop I took it back and they told me this make and model had been recalled for a defect that was underweighing by 10-15 lbs. They gave me a new scale, but boy was I depressed. I thought I had broke the 100lbs. lost mark, but it took me 3 more weeks once I got the correct weight. Just remember your still loosing and that is whats important. The scale is just a number.

The problem with scales is that they all vary by a few pounds no matter how expensive or deluxe they are. Weigh yourself on 3 or 4 different scales and see how they compare to your home scale. They should all be within 6 or 8 lbs of each other. Then just always weigh on the same scale for consistency. If you lose 5 lbs, that will show up on every one of those scales you tried. The important thing is to always use the same scale for proper tracking of your pounds lost.

First of all...don't beat yourself up over what you ate that day. This new life style is all about being normal. Even my thinnest (sickly so) friedns have days when they absolutly pig-out then spend a week eating like birds to work it off. It's NORMAL!!!! My gosh - if I shared some of the things I have done/eaten...it would make some of the heads on this site spin like Linda Blair - LOL! <p> As far as the scale goes...I agree - spend the money on a really good scale - do not buy a cheap $15 one at Walmart...THen play around with it as far as where you stnad. I have a $70 scale (can't remember the brand)...If i stand with my toes all the way to the front...it is 10 lbs less than if I stand with my heels right on the back edge....unfortunatly...the heels on the back edge match up with the doctor's scale - lol. But experiment positioning of your body - time of day, and the surface you have it on make a difference in the scales performance. Also, if you keep it in the bathroom...changes in the humidity levels may affect the scales functionality...I suggest putting it in a room where the temperature/humidity remains fairly consstant. Good luck to you!
