Question:
I am throwing up lots of sliva and phlegm.
I am 10 weeks post op. After I eat a meal that does not agree with me, I throw up phlegm and sliva. The phlegm is foamy and no food ever comes up. Is this normal? has this happeed top anyone else? — Joel S. (posted on March 23, 2004)

Sounds like something gets stuck when that happens. It probably works its
way out on its own. Chew more and slower and wait longer between bites, see
if that doesn't help. Good Luck!

This happens if i eat too fast, or if i am getting ready to toss cookies,
so ,i would assume the same for you, but yours doesnt get to the point
where you throw up ....
not sure why, other than, perhaps slow down eating , and chew a bit more
...
and , also suggestion, keep a journal of what you ate when you felt this
way, it may be an intolerance thats simply milder than others, if you can
track it, you can probobly pinpoint whats causing it .
Good Luck !

I'm seven weeks post-op and just started having this problem. My surgeon
suggested drinking something warm before eating. I haven't tried it yet,
but I hope it works for both of us!

I went through months of this at the beginning and it was all from my sinus
problems. It never occured to me the drainage from my sinuses was sitting
in my stomach, which now is small, and filling it up leaving no room for
food. I would get very ill everytime I tried to eat and in turn would throw
up a big mucus blob. After the sinus thing was figured out, I started
taking allergy meds and get a shot every few months. And if I can tell I'm
having a lot of sinus drainage on a particular day, I will drink something
hot, like tea, and that helps tremendously.

Hi,
This happens to me too. I'm about 7 mo. post op and it's happened since the
first time I felt nauseated post-op, either when I've overeaten a bit or
when something doesn't agree and wants to "exit". Your digestive
system has protective mucous in it, and this can happen when it's trying to
"protect" itself. It's calling in the reserves. Also, as in
dumping syndrome, it wants to flush out the offensive material. I've gotten
used to that as my normal response when tummy's not happy. Fortunately
that's pretty rare. Just wanted to let you know it's not freaky:) I agree
with other posters' advice about preventing it from happening though!
Chances are you and tummy are still getting to know one another, and it's
trying to teach you something about the new status quo:) Do talk to your
doc if it's a big problem, or just to be sure, of course.

Hi. I am doing the same a few times per week but if I keep trying to vomit
the food eventually comes up too. I am also 10 weeks out and still getting
used to what I can and can't tolerate. The frustrating thing is when I can
tolerate something one day and vomit it the next. We'll be ok eventually
and lots of people have the "foamies" at first.

Yes is normal - doctor said it is gastric juices when I eat too fast or too
much, which could literally be 2 or 3 spoons of food. I also usually have
to blow my nose too.

This happens to me when my stoma is blocked temporarily. That's what makes
the pouch fill up with mucous, which is what comes up.</P>
If I'm not blocked, the mucous just flows around the food, and exits the
stoma. Eating too soon after taking my pills does this, once with wadded
bread.
