Question:
Whose scale is right???? Mine or MD???
My scale at home last week, no clothes on has me weighing in at about 233, however when I got on the scale last week at the doctors office I was on my period then had me weighing, sweat suit on 338-I was mortified. Then this morning and last night no clothes on the scale says 229-I'm estatic at 1 year out-thinking I broke my plateau-get to the platic surgeons office and get weighed in my jeans- no top and the scale says 338-take off my jeans and the scale says 335-I don't get it -How much do I weigh-I really depressed about this-Am I plateauing at 1 year-I still have 70lbs more to lose is it over for me-I have been staying away from carbs-exercising getting protein-doing the right things-I have been going longer than I should with eating my meals and not getting all my water in-Is this a dreaded plateau-I want to cry-I just bought the south beach diet book today because I think it is more sane than Atkins-What else to do I am not giving up -I WILL GET TO GOAL JUST NEED SOME ADVICE-Luv Tori — TotallyTori (posted on March 11, 2004)

I'm assuming that you meant to say you weighed *238*?? not 338, a 100-lb
change would be hard to explain!! :)
Every scale will weigh you different, and you will weigh differently later
in the day than you do in the mornings. Personally, I ignore every scale
but my own, it's the one I've used since the beginning. I weigh at the same
time and with the same (no) clothes each time. So I'm consistent. As long
as you follow your trends on one scale don't get hung up on what other
scales have you weighing!!

Hey Tori,
I think most folks would tell you to use whichever scale is less. I just
had this issue come up for me on Monday at my 1-yr post op appointment.
The surgeon's scale shows me 20 pounds heavier than mine at home. I have
adjusted all my charts on my profile to reflect his numbers. Those are the
numbers that will be used to track my progress and determine when I am
eligible for reconstructive surgery. As much as it disappoints me, I am
going to use his numbers from now on. Congratulations on all your success.
You already know the best things to do...get more than the required
water...stick to your South Beach Diet....exercise....and you will be at
goal before you know it. I wish you well.

First of all, there's definitely something wrong if there's over a 100 lb.
weight difference between two scales. Secondly, it doesn't matter which one
is right as long as you use the same one all the time. If you get weighed
at home on Monday and weigh 250 lbs., and get weighed at the doctors office
on Tuesday and weigh 235 lbs., did you lose 15 lbs. in one day? No. But if
you get weighed at home on Tuesday and weigh 248 lbs., then you've lost 2
lbs. Every scale I've ever been on in my entire life has weighed me
different (up to a 10 lb. difference). Your weight loss should register the
same if, for example the day of surgery your home scale weighed you at 300
and today you weigh 250 - then you've lost 50 lbs. Likewise, if the day of
surgery, the doctors scale said 310 and today the doctors scale says 260,
you've still lost 50 lbs. To sum it all up.....go by the same scale all the
time and it should be consistent (except that some times you may be
retaining water, ate a lot the previous day, drank a lot of water without
urinating before getting weighed, or didn't yet have a bowel movement for
the day.) Good luck to you!

Easy to fix...weigh on a third and a fourth (different) scale and see what
the difference is. If there is THAT much of a difference between the two
scales one is definitely in need or recalibration. You need to know if its
yours and he needs to know if it's his. Good luck!
