Question:
NUVA RING BIRTH CONTROL METHOD
Hi, I'm getting off the Patch because I'm very, very moody and I think it may be the patch. The doc mentioned the Nuva Ring, it's sounds great. Has anyone had any experience with this method and have you had any weight gain with it? Thanks, Kelly* — Kelly* P. (posted on March 8, 2004)

Nuva Ring HATER here. I used it for 2 months and I hated it. I bled all
the time with it and I was moody too. I was also moody when taking Yasmin
for birth control. Mind you, I was using it to straighten out my whacked
out periods. The Weight loss seemed to cause continuous bleeding for 4
months. I stopped all forms of birth control at 6 months and miraculously,
my periods straightened out and I'm a clock work girl once again. Now...
for the purposes of birth control, it's one of those trial and error
things. I hope you find something that works for you.

i didn't have any noticable hormonal changes with the Nuva Ring, but i
didn't like the way it made me feel down there kind of irritated maybe it
would have gone away with time I used it for 2 months. But I can't use
different soap or I have the same results, but other than that me and my
husband loved it, it takes affect after about 2 or 3 days, you don't feel
it there when your being intimate either, I would say it is worth a trail.

Love It! I also switched from the patch to the ring. I was looking at
several alternatives. I was tired of worrying about it on a daily or
weekly basis. My gyn wanted me to stay on hormonal birth control because
of past female problems. (What he refused to recognize is all my past
female problems took place at 350+ pounds.....) My roommate was already
using it and loved it. So, I decided to give it a try. Two months
later...It's great! It's the first birth control I trust because you don't
have to worry about dosing errors. My periods have shortened down to about
3 days. On the patch, they were 7 or 8 days. So, it's been a good switch
for me.

I know it CAN happen with any form of birth control, but my sister got
pregnant 3 months post op while she was using NuvaRing. She had followed
all the directions for use. I guess it was just a bad ring or something.

I have been using the Nuva Ring for about a year now, and I wouldn't use
anything else. It is so much better than trying to remember to take a pill
everyday. No mood swings or irregular periods here. I totally love it.

I am so glad you asked this question. I used Ortho Evra for one month
(last month) and I was a psycho woman. The mood swings were really
bad....to the point that co-workers noticed. I just assumed all hormonal
forms of birth control would effect me the same way. But based on these
responses, I might give the ring a try. Thanks a bunch.

Hi...I was on the patch for 1.5 years, but I never had any moodiness
because of it. I had breakthru bleeding the entire second week of using it
though in each cycle. I switched in December to the Yasmin BC pills, and
they just didn't work at all..the first month was fine, but into the second
and third months, I had/am having continuous bleeding. I just went back to
the GYN and he's switched me to Ovcon 35 BC pills, so we'll see how these
do...Haven't tried the ring yet...might end up doing it though...good luck!

I've been on the Nuva Ring for a little over a year now. I luv it. The
first 2 months were terrible, I was very moody and had lots of spotting.
However, since that time, I have had no problems. Well, except this one
time (okay close your eyes) my bf kinda got a prize around his you know
what! UGH!! No problem though, the doctor did say you can take it out up to
2 hours at a time w/o the risk of pregnancy.

I raved about Nuva Ring a month or so ago when I first got it. Now I'm
singin' a different tune. I was very moody when it was in there, my sex
drive went into hibernation, and it felt like it was falling out all the
time. (but I have a prolapsed/tipped uterus so I'm sure this is why). I'm
doing the very opposite..leaving Nuva Ring behind and trying the patch.
I'm glad you posted b/c I'll be on the lookout for moodiness! Last but not
least, my doc said it's essentially the same drug (even made by same
company) so you would think whether it's the ring or the patch, we'll have
similar reactions. What else can you do but try?

I haven't ever used the ring, but have you ever thought about using the
IUD? I have had one in for the last four years and I LOVE IT! There are
no side effects for me, although the dr. says there is supposed to be some.
You do, however need to be married, or at least with one partner and one
partner only.
