Question:
Do most of you guys stop eating as soon as u feel food on your stomach?

Or do you wait a few mins after u feel it on your and then continue to eat your food?    — TotallyTori (posted on February 26, 2004)

When i eat a few spoons to fast i usually feel full right away. With me it's becuase i need time to let it settle. I just wait a few minutes and then i continue to eat until i get the "real" full feeling. If i feel uncomfortable after a bite or two it usually means i'll be visiting the potty. Good luck, it takes time:)249/184/?

By eating slowly and taking small bites, I give my body plenty of time to sense satiety before taking the next bite. As a result, I'm able to stop before that awful, overly-full feeling that had marked my pre-surgery life.

I tend to eat rather quickly so as soon as I feel that comfortable feeling-not full-just short of it, I stop and within 5-10 minutes, do get that full feeling.

I too tend to eat fairly quickly so I rely on two things to let me know to stop. My tummy will start growling and I know that means I've had enough. In the event that my tummy doesn't growl, I stop immediately as soon as I feel a sense of pressure. And so I want be tempted to go back and finish what was on my plate, I get up immediately and dispose of the food and put the dishes in the dishwasher. If I'm in a restaurant and don't plan to take the leftovers home, I take the salt or pepper shaker and cover the food very heavily with salt or pepper. My husband has adjusted to my somewhat odd behavior and has no problem continuing with his meal until he has eaten enough. And while I'm mentioning my husband, he has been the most wonderful, most supportive person imaginable thru this whole process. Boy am I blessed!!!!

Well first of all, I see that you are close to being 1yr out from having surgery. You haven't posted in a really long time so not sure how YOU yourself know when you are full from eating, since you haven't mentioned anything about it here. I am 20 mos out from having surgery and usually eat slow. I put the food on my plate and I stop eating way before my plate is clean, I almost never eat all of the food on my plate. I try not to make my meals any longer than 15-20 minutes. Some of the time I get this feeling like my throat has just shut off all food from going anywhere and stop eating at that time. But for the most part, I just eat a few bites and quit eating, depending on what I'm having for my meal.

take your time and eat slow. try putting the fork or spoon down between each bite. I hard to explain the feeling of fullness, especaly in the begging casue it really a painful full feeling. That will pass though,....Go Slow.
