Question:
Having major problems with passing GAS.
I will be 2 yrs post-op April 04. I've lost 177 lbs. and am very happy with my weight lose. My problem is very embarrassing. I pass gas everywhere! I have no control! Most of the time, no warning. I've tried Gas-X, Beano, & PhaZyme. I've read all 300 questions posted and didn't find one question on this subject. Is anyone else having this problem? ANY suggestions will be appreciated!! Hi Sue - have you looked at your diet choices? I find that if I am eating
the 'wrong' foods, I have horrible horrible uncontrollable gas. My husband
is the one that noticed the pattern, and now in the evening if I have gas,
he immediately knows I've eaten a forbidden food. It's the high carb foods
that do it to me. Rich foods, cream sauces, ice cream, sweets...anything
like that, even a little bit, is enough to set me off. I've read other
questions like this, and the higher carb foods seem to be a pattern...Good
luck!

I have the same problems. I will be a year out in April 04. For me, I
seem to get gas when I eat a lot of carbs. My boss went to Hawaii and gave
me banana chips (which I love dearly), so I've been munching on them for
the last 2 days and I'm suffering with gas. Try writing down what you are
eating and see if certain things are triggering it. Good luck,

Have you been having the problem all along or has it just recently started?
I saw a similar post this morning on the message board and responded to
that but couldn't remember the name of the product that helped me right
after surgery so I still use it. It is Acidopholus (sp?) and you can get
it at a health food store or in the health food section at the grocery
store. It helps to keep the bowel flora healthy. I have been told that
the bowel flora can be affected by too much sugar, anything too highly
refined (bread, pasta, etc.) or taking a long course of anti-biotics. I
used acidopholus after my surgery because I had to take the anti-biotices
for H pylori and I had major problems with yeast overgrowth and terrible
gas. I was like you.........unable to control it and was embarrassed on a
couple of occasions. Also, is it possible you've developed lactose
intolerance. I think that can cause gas as well.

I have the same problem when I eat "sugar free" candy, I assume
it is the sugar alcohol, when I avoid that...no problem.

I can't believe I'm admitting this in writing but, I used to have some
smelly problems of my own, then I came across a natural deodorant. It is a
soft gel pill called chlorophyll and I take one daily. I have been on it
for years (~10) and what I've noticed it that it helps everything: smelly
feet, bad breath, body odor and my farts hardly smell at all (they are also
alot less audible! Completely silent about 90% of the time.) The amount
that my stool smells was drastically cut too. It did take about three
months to notice a big difference and if you miss one day... The good news
(especially for us) is that it is chemically similar to hemoglobin, so some
people can take it instead of an iron supplement (and it's not
constipating). I can't say enough good things about it. You can get it from
any Vitamin store or GNC. I order mine thru the mail in bulk : ) I even
feed it to my husband, it keeps our marriage happy!!! ~Keri

The gas pains are horrid, and if you can't toot it is very painful. I
found that cooked, frozen squash works very well for the south end of
things.

Hi Sue,
I have the same problem! I don't do much eating of sugar and pasta as some
of the other posters have stated, but I do find that some foods are highly
offensive for me! Broccholi seems to be a big villan for me, as are any of
the veggies in that family. Boiled eggs are really bad. I only use lactose
free milk...anything with lactose seems to "blow me up" terribly.
And lets not even talk about any of the old stand-by offenders, such as
beans. I just try to avoid these foods. I think I will try the chlorophyl
the other poster spoke of. My gas is very painful...one night I thought I
was having another heart attack, and was actually getting dressed to go to
the ER when I noticed the pain had moved! Being the veteran of two
previous heart attacks, I knew the pain isn't mobile! I started doing some
mild exercises, and started to pass gas! Soon I was pain free! Gee,
wouldn't it be nice to cure all heart attacks that way? hahaha
I do think it would be helpful to take notice of the foods you have eaten
just before a bad gas attack. If you try any of the products suggested and
they help, please let me know!

Thank you 'everyone' for all your suggestions. I wrote them all down &
plan on giving them each a try..... Has anyone had good results with Beano?
I'm not sure if I really gave it a chance. Does it usually work, right
away? Thanks again, I know we can ALWAYS count on each other. SUE
