Question:
For those who have experienced vomiting.....

Whether is be from overeating or from simply eating too fast, have you experienced a strange texture or vomit? I know this sounds gross, but when I do vomit (3 times now), I don't vomit up food, but more like flem or mucus instead. It has no foul or sour smell..it just feels better once it comes up. Anyone know what it is before I call the doctor? Thanks!    — yayabinkies (posted on February 14, 2004)

From what I understand that is just how vomiting is for us post op. We don't have all the acids we had before. I have thrown up a couple of times, from eating to fast or not chewing well enough and it's just like you described. It never hurts to ask your doctor about it, but if it's only occasional and you are pretty sure you know why (you ate too fast or didn't chew well enough) then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

i am one year post op and vomit often. it is always like you described. Only once or twice has there been any food in it. Mostly foam and flem. Almost like sinus drainage.

Iam 1 year postop just like Delores and in the few times its happened to me, its pretty much like you described. Only once it was from overeating. It was just a little bit in liquid form, and once it happened, I felt fine. The other times werent from overeating, I had had a real bad headache that made me nauseated and those times I just had dry heaves. Youre probably ok but I'd keep an eye on it if I were you and if it continues, call the surgeon. Id rather get in to the doc and find out it's nothing than let it go and have it be something major. Good Luck!

Same here for me. It is foam. Like when something does not agree with me and it is sitting in the pouch. I start to get this foam build up and I have to spit it out. Once it is gone then I usually feel fine and can sometimes go back to eating my meal.

Hi, I had the same problem for about the first mth after surgery, I went to my surgeon and he did an endoscope and found out that it was due to acid reflux so he put me on nexium, which is a small purple pill I take once a day and as long as I take that I don't have anymore problems unless of course I eat to fast! Now I am a year post op and feel great so you might want to contact your surgeon, good luck to you!

I also have had this experience, even just as recently as this weekend. My dr was going to have me come in for an EGD if I didnt beign feeling better. They also suggested to drink warm lime water. Not Lemon but lime. It cut down the mucus instantly, and I began feeling better right away.

After reading the other replies, I can say that all the physical descriptions of this vomitting match my experience as well. I call this up chucking of mucus, my "jellyfishes". My surgeon did not know exactly what it is when I first called about it 7 months after surgery. It calmed down alot, and now happens far less, but still happens. There are just days I have that are not food days. I know that we do not have the same HCL acid in our sectioned stomachs. And the GI tract does produce mucus to coat and protect it from foreign objects. Sometimes I think my mucus just gets out of hand, and when I try to eat some food, something has to give. My body decides it will expel mucus, almost never does food come up. I know I have a flu bug or smoething when I heave until all food I just ate come back up! I have not iced this happens if I eat too fast, and also if I wait too long to eat, also I have noticed that when I am more stressed, it occurs. But sometimes it just happens, and then other days, I can eat like a normal person, or even eat more than I ever thought!
