Question:
Used to replace protien drinks and what about weight loss vitamins?
I have found and fallen in love with the Hood Carb Countdown Dairy Beverage. I know it does not have as much protein as some protein drinks do, but do you think it would serve the same purpose in using it as a protein drink in addition to other protien enriched foods? I just cannot stomach protien drinks. I tried the Slim Fast Low Carb drinks and about puked. They are nasty and so are the low carb snack bars. YUCK! Also, what about the One a Day weight loss vitamins? I have been taking those but are they good enough in addition with the other required vitamins? Thanks for any info. I just tried the Carb Countdown today for the first time and I think they
taste great. I tried it straight and then used it in with my protein
shake, not bad. I also baught the non fat regular milk for using with my
cream of wheat. I feel that if you don't have any problems with dumping on
it, then it should be at least a help with your protein intake for the day.
I wouldn't use it more than 2 cups in a day, but at that that gives you
24gr. of protein and 200 cals. for the chocolate and 140 cals. for the
regular non fat. I think that is pretty good, especially since it is only
3 carbs per cup, very low sugar. My nutricianist said as long as it is
less than 15gr. sugar per serving, 10gr. protein or more, less than 25
carbs and less than 200 cals. per serving that it is alright as a protein
suppliment. Good luck to you.

Since finding this at my local Walmart, I've been drinking it everyday with
a pack of Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar added of course!) Great
way to start the morning and a good amount of protein as well! I find I
prefer the 2% over the skim as it's a bit creamier. 7/11/03 Lap/RNY

Hello, Have you tried the vitalady web page to order samples of protein
that may appeal to you. They come with a full serving and are a 1.99 each.
I dont remember the web address but try a google search. It sure saved me
a few headaches.
It is over whelming in stores to try and choose. I absolutely LOVE fuzzy
navel by Nectar. It tastes like Orange juice/orange Julius...35 grams per
serving.. give it a try. Good Luck!

I really hate to be negative about this, but I want to re-iterate that we
do not absorb food protein as well as the whey protein shakes. Our
digestive tract has been permanently altered - we cannot break down the
food protein into amino acids, and if protein is not broken down, our
bodies cannot absorb and use it, nevermind the fact that the part of the
intestine that was originally designed to absorb amino acids is no longer
there (bypassed). This looks like a great product for sugar control, but
not protein supplementation. Getting in all your protein is not just about
getting the weight off, its about long term health. I just don't want
someone 5-10 years from now suffering from malnutrition and blaming the
surgery. We have to be pro-active in our healthcare. It is 100 times easier
to prevent a nutritional deficiency than it is to suffer from it and try to
recover from it.

Dottie: If you're able to get in enough protein through your food, I
wouldn't worry too much about the drinks. If you can get in around 60
grams a day, that should be enough for you. If not, then I'd keep
searching for a drink you like. I use a protein shake in the AM for my
breakfast, partly because it's quick and easy, and also because I like that
boost of getting 30 grams in first thing off the bat! I've been using
ProScore 100 chocolate, and mix it with skim milk. It's a light chocolate
flavor, and it's not overly thick even with the milk. It's also not bad
with water and ice. I always put it in the blender so it mixes well (I've
only bought it from vitalady.com - don't know what retailers might sell
it). Best wishes. Lap RNY 9/11/03, 254/189/???
