I have another form of IBD, which is microscopic colitis (MC) and I had
open RNY. I had to get an ok from my gastro doc and my surgeon also spoke
with another gastro doc to find out more about MC. I was diarreah free and
only had one bowel movement a day. I had my meds changed to Pentasa from
Asacol because I could open up the capsules to take the contents. I was
only allowed crushed, liquid or open capsules for my meds for six months
while my new stomach was healing. You will need to do some research on
Crohns and WLS. Try checking the library on this site.

Hi Cassandra: I am 2 1/2 yrs post op and when my surgeon was performing my
RNY, he discovered that I had early stage Crohn's disease. I only just
recently started having some symptoms and have been put on meds, but my
surgeon said that because of my surgery, I shouldn't really EVER have any
major effects of my disease. That was good to find out. But because of my
surgery, was my disease discovered. I am very thankful that I had an
extremely thorough surgeon. Crohns is very controllable, my symptoms were
alleved within 3 days of taking 1 small pill per day and no more pain at
all. P.S. I had RNY DISTAL and my surgeon was Dr. Terry Sanderfer in
Corona Ca.
