Question:
I am 7 weeks post op today and have been feeling great up until about 5 days ago.
I am having this TERRIBLE deep pain at the very top of my insicion, I assume where or very near where my new pouch is. It hurts terrible when I cough, sneeze, bend, twist or turn over in bed. The area is a little tender to touch. Wondering if it is like a pulled muscle or something. I can eat and drink fine, no problems till I try to move just right..I do not feel any lumps or bumps, could this be a start of a hernia..any ideas? — Reeda (posted on October 24, 2003)

I am 2 1/2 months post-op, and I remember about 6 or 7 weeks post op, I had
bad pain at the top of the area of my incision, my incision would burn, and
my inside would hurt to even turn or sit up. I started to get worried just
like you, then a couple of weeks later it hurt less and now the incision
will burn once in a while and the inside only hurts when I have gas built
up inside of me. I take a couple of tums with calcuim (why not) and it
helps release the gas. If your discomfort does not go away in acouple of
weeks, you may want to call your doctor. Think about it, your new tummy
has staples that is foreign to your body and the new tummy has to find it's
place, settled in, so give it time to adjust, you are swollen up until now,
that is what I think, and once the swelling goes down, your new tummy can
find it;s place.

Hello. I am also 7 weeks post-op and have the exact same problem. I went
back to work on Monday and it gradually got worse. I called off work today
thinking I was getting a hernia but didn't feel anything either. I called
my Doctor and was told it is probably the muscles and nerves stretching as
they heal. I was told to rest a while and if it doesn't get better or gets
worse to call back. So I guess it is normal.
