Question:
Has anybody ever ordered from Diabetic Dreams.com
they sell gourmet sugar free cakes and they're really expensive and I don't want to waste my money if they aren't good??? — TotallyTori (posted on September 18, 2003)

Why are you even "thinking" about cookies? All I think about is
protein, water and exercise and I am not happy with my weight loss. If I
thought about cookies or even tried to eat any I am SURE everything would
go straight to the devil for REAL!!! Don't even "think" cookie
let alone by any! God Bless you in your journey!

Please excuse the new postie. We all come around to confronting cravings
sooner or later. :) I haven't tried the Diabetic Dreams but I do
occassionally eat Murray's brand sugar-free cookies. They have some
oreo-type cookies that are really good. I use a couple to make a cookies
& cream protein shake sometimes.
The thing to remember is that
"sugar free" does not mean "carb free" or "calorie
free." It is okay to have if you can control your portions. I'm not
saying this because I think YOU have a problem with this necessarily, but
because sugar-free cookies have in the past been one of my "trigger
foods," ones that I can't control my portions with.
Bottom
line, the sugar free stuff made with Splenda is pretty awesome. The
sugar-alcohol sweetened stuff is variable. Also sugar alcohols can cause
gas/diarrhea and (for me, anyway) dumping. I have to limit consumption of
sugar alcohol just like I do regular sugar. I would definitely check out
the ingredient list pretty carefully before ordering. A cheaper solution
might be the Murray's products. They are not very expensive and, at least
in Houston, available at most grocery stores.

My caution, too, is to assess what you get for the calories it costs you.
I know that sometimes the best thing to do is to give in, just a little
bit, to a craving to make it go away. Sometimes fighting a craving only
leads you to eating other junk as a substitute, and then you still have the
craving, and eventually give in, only maybe more because now you're mad and
frustrated about having eaten all that other stuff to try to substitute for
the craving. However, I have tried very hard to fight cravings for sweets,
and the longer I resist, the easier it's getting. Now, I'm only five and a
half months out, so my story might change, but I know that giving into a
sweets craving by having sugar free cake will make the next step to real
cake that much easier. If I can avoid cake all together, I am better off.
That's one reason I won't eat Detour protein bars: they're billed as
"just like a Snicker's". If I get the taste of a Detour bar (and
if it really tastes like a Snicker's), then it's just too short a jump from
"just like a Snicker's" to a Snicker's. Assess if you are the
same as me in this regard, and decide if having sugar free cake will make
the step to real cake too easy.

Well, as far as calories this place prides itself on being low-cal as well
as sugar free and low in carbs, so that is not my concern my concern is the
quality of the food.
