Question:
I'm 13 months out and having a 12oz COKE slurpee daily, is this awful?

If it is Diet Coke then I say go for it! If it's regular Coke then why did
you bother to have WLS? The calories in regular Coke is insane. Sure way
to sabatoge yourself. I hope it's the diet version!

I say if the sugar doesn't bother you and you're still getting the weight
loss results that you desire, its fine.

Have you reached goal? If you have, and this doesn't cause weight gain for
you, or kick off carb cravings, then I guess it won't kill you :)
Personally, that would sabatage my efforts big time and set me up for
failure. But maybe that's just me.

Slurpees are yummy! Did you know 7 11 has a 0 calorie Diet Pepsi slurpee?
If you want a slurpee and can dig the taste of diet pepsi, try that. No
guilt involved.

You have to decide for yourself. Personally, I wouldn't touch Coke in any
form. I was ill with a virus and my WLS surgeon wanted me to drink Classic
Coke for a day or two because I needed some sugar - I wouldn't touch it.
Instead I sucked on peppermint candy and ate popsicles. Of course, I was
addicted to Coke before my surgery and don't even want to taste it now.

COKE is not for us...it contains phosphoric acid (this is a chemical in the
"cola-type" drinks) which binds to calcium and helps it to leach
out of our bodies. We have enough problems with calcium as it is (gastric
bypass patients), so best to avoid COKE and any of the brown, cola-type
drinks totally. Hugs, Joy

first of all, having a 12 oz Coke slurpee once in a while is no big deal if
it doesn't make you dump. HOwever, daily is an enormous waste of
calories..they do have the diet which are really quite good. Also, have you
tried the new Pepsi Vanilla (diet), it is such a treat! Flies off the
shelves here, I literally have to run into the store first thing in the
morning if I want any. However, I only drink one a day, if that...Here's
why I am writing. Another fellow WLS friend from here and I are buddies
now. She had her weight at a standstill (-145 pounds and still has at least
50 to go). She was doing everything right, gym, water, etc...getting very
frustrated. We calculated out the calories of her regular sodas she drinks
and the alcohol she's been drinking (not an alcoholic by the way) and found
she was consuming anywhere from 500-2000 extra calories a day! She has
stopped drinking hi-cal drinks and guess what???? Her 5 month plateau has
been broken.

I'd suggest that you figure out how many calories are in the Coke slurpee,
multiply that by the number of slurpees you'll consume in a year, divide
that by 3500 (the number of calories in a pound), and decide whether the
number of pounds you'll gain (or maintain) for that one item are worth it.
(I know, I hate math too ... but for stuff we eat regularly, it can be an
eye-opener to look at it this way). If it's still worth it to you, and you
aren't concerned about the acidic nature of cola (which bugs my pouch, but
maybe not yours), and not concerned about the caffeine issue Joy raised
(which wouldn't keep me from having one once in awhile, but would
definitely keep me from having one daily), then, maybe this is your thing
and it's not "awful" for you. But, chances are, it's not a good
idea as an everyday treat. Maybe once in awhile, instead?

One regular Pepsi slurpee (12 oz) is 150 calories - almost all sugar (27g
of sugar, 1g of other carbs). If you had 365 of those in a year, that
would be 54,750 needless calories that you are taking in. If you don't do
anything to burn those 54,750 calories off, that would result in 15.6
pounds per year being put on just from drinking these slurpees...
<p>
In addition, consuming so much sugar every day is going to fuel the
"carb monster" and drive you to eat things that aren't good for
you. If you need a Slurpee, make it one of the new Diet Pepsi ones...JR

Drinking one regular soda a day (144 calories) rather than having a

Even sugar-free slurpies are carbonated, and carbonation may stretch out
your anastamosis.

I think you know its not a great idea, or you would not have asked!! :-)
Sounds like you are setting yourself up to return to old/bad habits. Be
careful!

If you have to have a Slurpee, try the Diet Pepsi Slurpee from 7-Eleven. I
love them. I only have them about once a week, but they are great! The
Crystal Light Slurpees are a different story -- I've tried 3 different
flavors and they all taste chemically to me. Good luck to you!
