Question:
How long till Doc requests pre-cert?

I had my consultation almost two weeks ago, and called my insurance co today to find out that they knew nothing. Anyone know how long it takes for him to request approval? I'm way too excited!    — Kim S. (posted on September 12, 2003)

With my surgeon, the process is this: Attend informational meeting and get a big packet of information. Complete the packet and send it in.Have initial consultation with the surgeon. Jump through hoops(psych eval, support group meeting, diet classes, etc.) Once all the reports are in, you have a second meeting with the surgeon to review everything. From there, the office sends all the info with a letter from the surgeon to the insurance company and they do the approval. (With a tentative OR date). There is a lot of waiting with this process, and it just depends on the process your surgeon and insurance company use. Patience!
