Question:
Any Younger Post-ops have Sweats,fever & chills?
Hi am 14mos post op and 22 years old. Last night I experienced fever and sweats with a little of the shakes, then about 15 minutes later i was getting chills. I ate something with some sugar, hoping that would help but i don't think it did. I had this happen once before about 2months ago during the day, i ate some sugar and felt a little better. I don't know if that helps or not. Anyone had this or know whats going on?? — Sunny4x4chick (posted on September 11, 2003)

I'm not young, but have had exactly what you are describing happen to me
before. I get this same reaction from BBQ Sauce. So far only from that. Hot
one minute, cold the next, chill bumps and the shakes all at the same
time.I can usually eat a piece of hard candy and it will help the shakes to
some degree. I am also Lactose intolerant and have had this happen to me
after drinking a glass of milk also. Hope this helps.

This could be one of two things. It could be low blood sugar which can be
counter acted by eating something high in protein, Not Sugar! It could
also be a form of dumping if you had eaten something with a high quantity
of sugar and just didn't realize it. I had it happen to me after using
french dressing on a salad. Check your lables!

Hi, Jane had it right: you're either dumping, or you are having a blood
sugar issue. Either way, talk to your dietician immediately, and chart
everything you are eating. Folks dump on some pretty odd stuff so it
doesn't necessarily mean you are eating a lot of sugar but you really need
to watch the carb intake and make sure any carbs you do take in are
unrefined. Read all labels carefully. And good luck!!!
