Question:
I am having the Gastric Bypass with Long Roux Limb on 9/17/03
and insurance has approved 150 cm to be bypassed, my starting stats are 5'4" 309.9 lbs. My question is will this be enough? My Dr and I have never discussed a "goal weight" just that I should loose around 75% of my excess weight. I would eventually like to be in the normal range, is this possible? — lillbitofsin (posted on September 2, 2003)

Absolutely! I had 150cm bypassed and am in a "normal" BMI range.
Just follow your post op plan and hang in there. Good luck!

150 cm bypased, and 13 months later I am down 156 pounds and 20 pounds from
my goal weight.

Interesting that your doctor says he will do a long roux limb, especially
on someone your size. Normally, most surgoens feel that a long limb is 300
cm and longer.
<p>I was a SMO starting at 442 and 5'9 and am down 162 lbs in 7
months. Like the others said, 150cm is plenty. What is more important is
following your surgeon's post-op plan and learning to listen to your body.

Good luck on your surgery. I had mine on Sept 16 last year, also long Roux
limb which is 150cm. I have lost 133 so far with about 80 more to go. You
will do fine.
