Question:
is drinking water after a protien drink ok?
I was wondering does drinking water right after a protien drink ok or does it help push the protien though with out absorbing it.I am so thirsty after protien and cant wait to get the taste out of my mouth. 4weeks out lap — patty L. (posted on August 10, 2003)

Since your protein drink is liquid, it's fine to drink water after or even
during. I drink Proscore 100 and it tends to be thick (depending on how
much water you use with it) and I need to drink sips of water all the while
drinking my shake. If not, I get really thirsty too. It's just too
"heavy" and I need that water to clear my mouth once in a while.
I say go for it!

Yep..you are fine! :~) Drinking water after a protein drink is just fine...
the protein is absorbed in your intestines anyway, so... it won't hurt at
all! :~)

Welllll, this is something that you should ask your doctor or nutritionist
about. I have been told to not drink any water 30 before or after a meal. A
protein drink is a meal replacement. By drinking water right afterwards you
are washing the protein out of your pouch too fast. I agree with you they
do give you a nasty taste in your mouth.

Just wanted to clarify one teenie little thing.......protein supplements
are not meal replacements. Of course if you are a new post op you may not
be able to get in meals, supplements, fluids and every other things you're
supposed to get as a WLS patient. But, I just wanted to clarify that
protein supplements are not used in place of a meal - they are used in
addition to it. I've had water after drinking mine but not always.
There's so many products on the market - I'm hoping you can find one you
like! Keep up the good work!

Well, Rona is right about the meal replacement - I should have not used
that term. I use protein drinks as my snacks sometimes. But, I still do not
drink water 30 before or after drinking them. I would still ask your doctor
or nutritionist your question. Because if you drink right after having the
protein drink you can (in my eyes) wash the protein out of the stomach
pouch and you will not reap the benefits of the protein drink.
