Question:
How long after surgery can I color hair or get a permanent?
I have heard that you can't get a permanent right away. How long do you have to wait? I haven't heard anything about color. — judyc7 (posted on July 6, 2003)

I had my hair highlighted about 3 weeks after surgery. I needed a lift. :)
I've had no problems with it.

I had my hair colored about 2 1/2 weeks after surgery. I returned to work
and refused to go looking like a skunk!

I waited 6 months for my perm as I was afraid it increase my hair loss (it
didn't affect it one way or the other) but colored my hair a month after
surgery with no problems at all.

I had my hair colored (double processed) 2-1/2 weeks post-op and had no
problems.

I got a gorgious perm at 4.5 weeks post op. I think you may be concerned
that the anesthesia might cause an adverse effect on your perm/color, but
mine did great.

As a former hairdresser, I always recommended to waite 2 mos after, and 1
mo before. The anestesia can cause the color to fade out, and will change
the texture of your hair. Waiting 2 mos will give the ansetesia time to get
out of your body, and allow the texture of your hair to get back to normal.
Good luck and God bless!! 10 weeks out, and down 45 lbs
