If you look in the Archives you will find many many many women who all had it at the same time. It's not a problem.

Maggie's right!! Be prepared... if you are just finishing up, or in the middle... it may last longer than usual, or start all over again. It happens, but it isn't a concern. Hugs!

Yes, my daughter got her period the day before surgery. When she got dressed (hospital gown) right before surgery, she was given a sanitary napkin and told to "wedge" it between her legs, because no underwear is allowed. She was embarrased, but the nurses acted like it happened all the time.

Don't worry, this isn't new to the staff. When I had gall bladder surgery, I also had my period. Nurse gave me these wonderful net panties and a sanitary pad to put in the panties. No problem. Had a hip replacement with my period--I was so out of it the next day that when they gave me a bedpan, I peed--without remembering that they had wedged a sanitary napkin there. What a mess for nurse to clean up! I was so glad that I had had my period two weeks before the RNY and wouldn't be bothered by this problem. Day after surgery, I got it again. They brought out the wonderful net panties and napkin. What joy! I think it is the body's reaction to stress.

I started my period the day after surgery but I thought it might happen so I brought some of those big night time pads and used those....it worked out fine.

I started my period the day before surgery. Like the others have said, it was no big deal to the nurses, etc. It was just "routine". They gave me some "surgical underware" and were great about it. Your surgeon has seen 'blood and guts' so what's a little menstrual blood to him/her? Many blessings, Robin

Hi, I will have to agree with everyone else Its really no big deal, I got mine like 3 days before I went to have my surgery and they did not even care. I just brought lost of pads and no one even acted like it was a problem. I do know I was almost done when I went in to have the surgery but when I got into my room I started right back up again and lasted 2 more days so bring extras. Teena(RYN 4/8/03~down65#)
