Question:
Has anyone else experienced extremely dry mouth 4 wks post op?
My post op is going well, but I have a friend who had her's done around 4 wks ago. She is experiencing very dry mouth. This makes all of her food taste awful and she is not having a very good post op experience (wound infections, ect) Anyone else experienced this dry mouth and, if so what did you do to help it? Water seems to "lodge" on it's way down so she doesn't like drinking it. Thanks! — Diane K. (posted on June 21, 2003)

Your body is great for giving you signs. This is dehydration. She NEEDS to
drink, its really not an option. This is the first phase, if it continues
she can get VERY ill. Try Propel and sip sip sip!

Yes, water should be your (her) #1 priority post-op. I found setting mini
goals every day seemed to help. As far as the dry mouth goes...I also had
this problem for about the first 6-8 weeks. Target carries a toothpaste
especially for dry mouth called Biotene. I tried it, and it did help some,
but not totally. I also used a flouride rinse before bed as I always
seemed to wake up with cotton mouth...again, it helped some...but not as
much as good old fashioned time.
