Question:
MIXING CALCIUM AND MULTI VITAMIN WITH IRON

I know you shouldn't take you calcium and iron together but what about a multi vitamin and calcium? I take the Centrum chewable tablet that has 18 mg of iron in it, is it ok to take that with my calcium or do I need to wait a few hours in between?    — Kelly* P. (posted on May 26, 2003)

My dietician has me taking my multi with iron in the morning with breakfast and then I take my calcium citrate with both lunch and dinner. You need to give your body a chance to absorb the multi with iron before you take you calcium.

Most likely the calcium in the multi cancels the iron. And the additional calcium surely would. I've never counted the iron in the multi-vite anyway. Proximals need AT LEAST 50mg iron beyond that (some need much more), so presumably you're taking your iron + C separately, anyway. ?
