Are you able to drink 64 oz of water a day yet? If not, that could be part of it. Your body has gone through alot and until you get enough fluids it will hold on to what is there. You might want to call your Dr. and let him/her know so it can get in your chart though. Good luck!

I had a problem from the water retention due to all the ivs that I was given. I came home 30# more than when I had the surgery. I know exactly what you are going thru. I am also a person that has a tendency to retain water. The doctor's office said that as I increased my activity in the house at home I would slowly start to loose the excess water, and I did. Try and increase your activity at home if you can, say by just walking in the house a little more or out on your drive etc and it may help. Of course only do this with your doctor's approval. I am now 13 days post and have lost all of the excess water weight gain and an additional 13# of real excess weight. I also am still on a liquid diet until I go back into see the doctor this Wed. for the staple removal and the next stage of my diet plan.

My open RNY was on april 24 2003, and 1 week after I came home my BP bottomed out so my PCP told me to stop my HYZARR, it is a potassium sparing diuretic,(Iam type 11 diabetic) well I was walking and drinking between 50 and 60 oz of water a day and my ankles swelled up, and I gained 10 pounds, I wasnt urinating enough intake/output. I saw her the following week and she put me back on a diuretic, HYGROTEN, and I lost the 10 pounds, and my legs went down, and now I only am to use it if I start to swell. My bp went from 130/80 preop to 106/70 3 weeks post op. I would see my pcp or surgeon and see if you may need a diuretic. good luck.
