Question:
Looking for a higher protien hummus

I love hummus and am told it's o.k. to have now, but the brand I bought (Athenos ready to eat) has only 1 gram of protein per 2 tbsp serving. Can someone recommend a brand that has more protein or maybe have a recipe for homemade?    — Sarahlicious (posted on May 5, 2003)

Have you tried adding powder milk .. not sure if that will ruin the taste or not. How about the tasteless whey protien powders? <p>Take Care, Be Well, Be Happy!

Try making your own. All you need is a food processor or a blender. There are scores of recipes on the 'net and all of them seem to include garbanzo beans, tahini paste, garlic, and olive oil. After that, you could add whatever you want. Getting the protein up shouldn't be too difficult. Hang in there.

I make my own, I got my recipe from a cuban guy at work who loves lebanese food 1 can chick peas or gabanzo beans(drained) 3/4C extra virgin olive oil salt to taste tahini 1 or 2 Tbs (I found this in the 'organic' isle of the grocery store) juice 3 lemons (I use 4 med or 5 small cause I like it to bite) 4 cloves of garlic (I use 5 or 6 cause I like it really garlicy) is that a word? =) It's good on toasted bagels or wheat pita bread.

There is a hummus made by Travellers I think it even has slices of pita bread in the package as well. Its in the refrigerator section (near the cheese) of the grocery store. You can also make your own hummus that may include more protein, look on-line for some good recipies.
