Before you do, read the label. Often sugar free candy is made with one of
the sugar alcohols, manitol or sorbitol. If it ends in 'itol', it is a
sugar alcohol. The sugar alcohols can cause diarrhea, so go very slowly.
Try one or two pieces a day. They won't hinder your weight loss, but you
do need to be careful with them.

The only sweets that I allow myself is an occasional Detour or U-Turn bar.
My two kids (16 and 12) and I made a deal - they get the candy (I wasn't
going to eat it anyhow *G*) and I get the hard-boiled eggs *G*!!! JR

That was very thoughtful of your mom. I don't see any reason why you can't
have some. If you have never had SF chocolate before, do as Gar suggested,
and just have a little until you know how your system tolerates it. For
most of us, we tolerate it well.

I still crave sweets and eat the s/f candy and chocolate; however, please
note that it can give you some really stinky gas ... you'll be able to
clear a room real quick!

You can eat them but beware that they may be sugar free but not calorie
free. And they can keep you from losing and perhaps make you crave other
carbs. I resisted eating any sugar free candy til I had reached goal and
was maintaining for 3 months. I do eat some, but rarely.
So, if you want it, enjoy a piece or so but don't eat a lot. Also, most of
the sugar free chocolates are sweetened with manitol and it can cause
severe diahrrea if you eat too much. I would limit myself to one piece
every day or so.

Physically, sure - probably no problem in moderation. Psychologically --
NO, NO, NO!!!!!! Don't do it!! It is the start of a slippery slope. I
thought it wouldn't be a problem for me and have been off track ever since
(that was 4 months ago!). It's a mental thing - just don't go there!
