Question:
How do you know if you have a hernia?

I've been having a relatively uneventful recovery. I'm 6-weeks post op and today I'm suddenly feeling a different kind of pain in my upper abdomen, off to the left side. It feels kind of like a muscle cramp, except it's there all the time. Could it be a hernia?    — Barbara C. (posted on April 13, 2003)

I have a hernia, you can usually feel it, it feels like a bump near your navel, at least that is where my is now which will be removed when I have RNY in May. I had one a few years ago and it was repaired, but my PCP said it probably came out under the repair patch. When I lay down and move push my belly up and turn some, it looks like a larger bump there, I say it looks like an alen trying to come out. lol Sometimes it bothers me if my waist band is too snug.
